- Description
- Published in 1976, Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas is the third volume of Maya Angelou’s multi-part autobiography. The book opens with Angelou working at a record store, where she meets and eventually marries Tosh Angelos, a white man. Following the swift collapse of this marriage, she finds work as a dancer and singer in San Francisco nightclubs, legally adopting the stage name "Maya Angelou". Her talent paves the way for her selection in the premier, all-Black international touring production of the opera Porgy and Bess.
